The Korean fencing men’s saber and women’s epee teams won gold medals together in the team event of the first International Fencing Federation (FIE) World Cup this year.
The national team consisting of Koo Bon-gil (National Sports Promotion Agency), Ha Han-sol (Seongnam City Hall), Do Gyeong-dong (Daegu Metropolitan City Hall), and Park Sang-won (Daejeon Metropolitan City Hall) won the Men’s Saber World Cup team event held in Warsaw, Poland on the 13th (Korean time).

The women’s epee team won the gold medal at the Women’s Epee World Cup held in Barcelona, Spain with Kang Young-mi (Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Office), Song Se-ra (Busan Metropolitan City Office), Lee Hye-in (Gangwon-do Office), and Yu Dan-woo (Jeonnam-do Office). Kang Young-mi, the eldest 38-year-old member of the women’s epee team, enjoyed double happiness by winning a silver medal in the individual event and a gold medal in the team event.
Among the women’s epee national team, Kang Young-mi, Song Sera, and Lee Hye-in are the most elite members who won silver medals in the team event at the Tokyo Olympics. After defeating Israel and Hungary in turn, they faced Estonia, the gold medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, in the semifinals. However, after a breathtaking close match, they won a dramatic 45-44 and advanced to the final. In the final, they beat Italy 34-27.Meanwhile, the women’s saber national team won a bronze medal in the team event at the Women’s Saber World Cup held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Yoon Ji-soo, Jeon Ha-young (Seoul Metropolitan City Hall), Jeon Eun-hye (Incheon Metropolitan City Jung-gu Office), and Choi Se-bin (Jeonnam-do Office) participated and won the bronze medal together. With this, Korean fencing succeeded in winning all the World Cup team events in which they participated on the 13th.
