’43rd title’ Messi overtakes ‘title frustration’ Ronaldo to reach milestone…with 50 fewer games played and ‘most goals in Europe’s top five leagues’

Lionel Messi (35, Paris Saint-Germain) killed two birds with one stone: he surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo’s (37, Al Nasr) scoring record and won the 43rd trophy of his career.

PSG drew 1-1 with RC Strasbourg in the 37th round of the 2022-2023 Ligue 1 season at the Stade de la Neuve in Strasbourg, France, on 28 September.메이저놀이터

The result leaves PSG with 85 points (27 wins, 4 draws and 6 losses) and the league title, regardless of the final result. It is the club’s 11th Ligue 1 title and second in a row.

Messi presented the trophy to the team. He opened the scoring in the 14th minute of the second half, finishing off a Kylian Mbappe pass from the left side of the box with precision. It allowed PSG to hold on for the win despite conceding a late equaliser to Kevin Gameiro in the 34th minute.

It was Messi’s 16th league goal. Messi has been heavily criticised this season for missing club training and being knocked out of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) in the round of 16, but he has continued to rack up attacking points. He leads the league in assists with 16 goals and 16 assists in 31 games, and has four goals and four assists in seven games in the UCL.

With this goal, Messi also surpassed Ronaldo. He scored his 496th goal in five European leagues (Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1), leapfrogging Ronaldo (495) into sole possession of first place. Messi has 496 goals in 577 games, while Ronaldo has 495 goals in 626 games.

Messi also joined former teammate Dani Alves as the most decorated player in history with the 43rd trophy of his career. He has won 35 titles with Barcelona, five with the Argentina national team and three in a PSG shirt.

Ronaldo, on the other hand, was denied a league title on the same day. Al Nasr drew 1-1 with Al Ittifaq on the 28th, making it impossible for them to catch leaders Al Ittihad. Ronaldo played the full 84 minutes, but remained silent and had to watch his team’s disappointing runners-up finish. Al Nasr are now winless this season.
